History
of Befared
The origins of FRiM “BEFARED” S.A. are linked to the Machinery Factory and Iron Foundry established in Biała by Edmund Szmeja from Kobiernice. Machinery for the mining and metallurgy, building materials and food industries was manufactured here for decades. These machines have received many awards and medals at international fairs and exhibitions. The first award for the products of the Edmund Szmeja Factory was given in 1877 at a fair in Lviv. It is from this year that the documented history of the Factory counts.

Establishment of the “Benn” Bielsko factory
The Modern Gear and Machine Factory “Benn” Bielsko was established, which produced modern gearboxes, clutches, bearing housings, pulleys and V-belt pulleys, drive and transmission shafts in the inter-war period.

Establishment of the “Bielsko Zakłady Budowy Maszyn”.
The “Bielsko Zakłady Budowy Maszyn” was created from the merger of five former private factories.

Adoption of the name Bielskie Zakłady Urządzeń Technicznych
The company adopted the name Bielskie Zakłady Urządzeń Technicznych and in 1966 Bielskie Zakłady Urządzeń Technicznych “Befared”.

First production of truck cranes in Poland
The company was the first in Poland to undertake the production of truck cranes on the Star 3 chassis, which were exported to all Comecon countries and to Egypt, Vietnam, China and Brazil.

Patents and new technologies
The implementation of a new series of general-purpose cylindrical and conical-roller reducers, designed on the basis of typification and unification principles, has begun. Heat treatment was applied to all gear elements. In implementing the new series, new technologies were gradually mastered, many of which were recognised as innovative and granted patents.

Integration of the plant into the Electrical Machine Factory “Indukta”
The plant was incorporated into the Electric Machinery Factory “Indukta” and became the Gearboxes and Motor reducers Division of this company.

Independence regained
"BEFARED" achieves organisational independence again and operates under the name “BEFARED” Reducer and Motor Reducer Factory.

Conversion into a State Treasury Company
As part of the National Programme of Universal Privatisation, the state enterprise is transformed into a sole shareholder State Treasury Company as of 2 January 1992.
2003
Conversion to a Private Company
“BEFARED” S.A. becomes a fully private company.
